Venus Versa Pro’s IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photo Rejuvenation uses targeted light energy to correct pigmentation irregularities and visible redness while stimulating collagen production. This treatment helps improve overall skin tone and clarity by reducing sun damage, age spots, discoloration, broken capillaries, vascular lesions and redness.  Over a series of treatments, IPL Photo Rejuvenation leaves the skin brighter, clearer, and more even-toned with minimal downtime.  Treatments are suitable for light to medium skin tones and can be completed on large or targeted treatment areas.

IPL Photorejuvenation is designed to target pigment and vascular concerns deep beneath the surface. This treatment is highly customizable and is ideal for those looking to address:

  • Sun Damage & Age Spots: Effectively fades brown spots, liver spots, and irregular pigmentation caused by UV exposure to restore a clearer, more uniform complexion.
  • Redness & Broken Capillaries: Targets hemoglobin to diminish facial redness, rosacea-related flushing, and visible spider veins or dilated capillaries.
  • Uneven Skin Tone: Harmonizes the complexion by reducing discoloration and patchiness, leading to a more balanced and consistent skin tone.
  • Dull or Lackluster Skin: Revives a “tired” complexion by stimulating natural cell renewal, providing an instant “red-carpet” boost and a radiant, healthy glow.
  • Pigmentation & Freckles: Uses precise light pulses to break down surface pigment and dark spots, helping the skin look more refined and rejuvenated.

Note: The best candidate for this treatment typically has a light to medium skin tone (Fitzpatrick types I–IV). A consultation is required to confirm clinical suitability and ensure the safest results for your specific skin profile.

IPL Photorejuvenation is an advanced way to address pigment and vascular concerns while instantly reviving a tired complexion. Here is what you can expect from your experience:

    • Treatment Time: Sessions are efficient and typically take around 15 to 30 minutes, making this the perfect treatment to fit into a busy schedule.
    • Sensation: During your treatment, you will feel a sensation often compared to a light snap of a rubber band.  Most guests find the sensation very manageable.  It is normal for areas with a higher concentration of melanin of vascular issues to feel more “spicy” than others while treating.
    • Number of Treatments: While you will see an immediate “glow” after just one session, we typically recommend an initial series of 3-4 treatments, spaced 3–4 weeks apart to achieve optimal results for sun damage and redness. At the time of consultation, we will help customize a plan that aligns with your specific skin goals.
    • Downtime & Pigment Evolution:   There is no downtime to IPL skin rejuvenation, allowing you to return to your normal routine immediately. You will notice an immediate darkening of targeted pigment immediately post-treatment, they may experience small dark spots of pigmentation on days 5-7, often referred to as a “coffee ground” effect, as the melanin rises to the surface. This darkened pigment will naturally lift and flake away after 5–7 days, revealing a clearer and more even complexion beneath.

Pre-Treatment

To ensure the most effective treatment and minimize skin sensitivity, please begin your preparation 5–7 days prior to your appointment:

  • Pause Actives and Exfoliants: Stop using Retinols, Glycolic Acid (AHA), Salicylic Acid (BHA), Vitamin C serums, and all physical or chemical exfoliants. This allows your skin’s natural barrier to be at its strongest.
  • Manage Hair Removal: Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours before your session. We cannot treat over areas that have not been shaved, as it increases the risk of surface burns. In addition, waxing, electrolysis, or hair removal creams must be paused for at least 2 weeks prior.
  • Sun Awareness: Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanning products. We cannot treat skin that is sunburned, tanned, or irritated. Your appointment will be rescheduled and a booking fee will be charged.
  • Cold Sore Prevention: If you are prone to cold sores, please notify us in advance. We will recommend you pre-treat with an antiviral medication.  Our medical director can prescribe, as needed.

Post-Treatment

IPL Photorejuvenation typically requires no downtime, but following these steps will help protect your skin and maximize results:

  • Gentle Cleansing & Hydration: Use only a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated while it heals. If you feel any “sunburn” sensation, a cool compress or aloe vera can be applied.
  • Continue Pausing Actives: Avoid all “actives” (Retinols, AHAs, BHAs, Vitamin C) and exfoliants for at least 5 days post-treatment to prevent irritation.
  • SPF Protection: Your skin will be highly photosensitive. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily to all treated areas to prevent hyperpigmentation.
  • Avoid Heat: For the first 24–48 hours, avoid extremely hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and vigorous exercise to prevent unnecessary flushing or irritation.
  • Protect the Pigment: As targeted pigment darkens and “peppers,” do not pick, scrub, or exfoliate the area. Allow the darkened spots to naturally lift and flake away on their own to ensure proper healing.

If any of the following apply, you cannot undergo IPL Photorejuvenation at this time:

  • Pregnancy & Nursing: Treatment is not available while pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Active Cancer: Current or a history of cancer, or pre-malignant moles in the treatment area.
  • Photosensitive Conditions: Diseases stimulated by light, such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Porphyria, or Epilepsy.
  • Tattoos or Permanent Makeup: We cannot treat directly over any tattoos or permanent makeup in the targeted area.
  • Recent Sun Exposure: Excessively tanned skin from the sun, tanning beds, or self-tanning products within the last 2–4 weeks.
  • History of Keloid Scarring: A history of keloiding or abnormal wound healing.

The following may require you to postpone your treatment or avoid specific areas:

  • Active Skin Infections: Any active cold sores (Herpes Simplex), Psoriasis, eczema, or rashes in the treatment area.
  • Recent Resurfacing: Any deep chemical peeling or resurfacing in the treatment area within the last 3 months.
  • Injectables: You must wait at least 2–4 weeks after receiving Botox or dermal fillers before treating that same area with IPL.
  • Implants: Superficial metal or silicone implants in the treatment areas

Please inform us if you are taking any of the following, as they increase skin sensitivity to light:

  • Isotretinoin (Accutane): Must be discontinued for at least 6 -12months prior to treatment.
  • Photosensitizing Medications: Certain antibiotics (like Tetracyclines), medications  or St. John’s Wort must be discontinued for at least 2 weeks prior to your session.
  • Topical Actives: Retinols and AHAs/BHAs must be paused 5–7 days before treatment.

A minimum of 12 hours prior, a patch test must be completed, to determine suitability for treatment and parameter settings.  If any adverse reactions are noted, we will discuss alternative treatment plans.
